
Demas & Wright Win Southland Weekly Honor

Sam Houston State freshman Danielle Demas and sophomore Kaylynne Wright were tabbed women's track and field athletes of the week, the league announced Monday.
Demas notched three top-three finishes at the Sam Houston State Twilight in Huntsville, Texas.
The freshman from Houston, Texas (Cypress Creek H.S.), notched a victory in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.72 seconds in her first event of the outdoor.
Demas continued to impress with a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles after recording a time of 13.96. The Bearkat ran the opening leg of 4x100-meter relay that saw Sam Houston finish third following a 47.48 performance. Demas is the second Bearkat to earn the award this season.
Wright won an individual title in the long jump at the Sam Houston State Twilight.
The sophomore from Huntsville, Texas (Huntsville H.S.), won the event with her season-best jump of 19 feet, 3.25 inches.
The mark stands fourth-best in the Southland while she is the first Bearkat to earn the award this season.
Sam Houston heads to Lake Charles, La., this week for the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships to be hosted by McNeese State Thursday May 10 through Sunday May 12
