
Two Bearkat freshmen earn summer honors

Sam Houston State freshmen-to-be Brenna Homer of LaGrange and Claire Kilpatrick of Arlington Martin have picked up recent honors in summer volleyball competition.
Homer was named as the “Most Valuable Player” at the TGCA 1A-3A All-Star Game Thursday July 11 in Austin. Homer was credited with 15 kills and totaled 17 digs as she led her squad to a four-set victory.
The 5-10 outside hitter is a four-year varsity player at LaGrange who earned All-District honors not only in volleyball but softball and basketball. She was named to the Texas Class 3A state championships all-tournament team after leading LaGrange to the state finals. In softball, she was an all-state third baseman and hit a record 17 home runs.
Kilpatrick was named USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship 18 UCA Gold Division all-tournament. Her team placed fifth in the 18 USA division.
A 5-7 defensive specialist was a two-time all-district selection at Martin High School.
