Both the offense and the defense drew praise from head coach Willie Fritz after the second scrimmage of 2013 preseason camp for the Sam Houston football team Saturday morning.
The hour-long scrimmage emphasized play in various situations including overtime play and running the two-minute drill.
“There are a lot of situations you want to work on in preseason so that, if they happen in a game, everyone is familiar with what has to be done,” Fritz said. “We touched on all the situations we want to emphasize.”
The Bearkat defense worked on the blitz, a specialty for the Sam Houston football team's “Black Swarm.”
“We saw a lot of good stuff defensively,” Fritz said. “The kids were fairly fresh and we had a lot of coachable moments will come from today's scrimmage.”
Fritz and his coaching staff now look to complete the task of formalizing the two-deep lineup for the Bearkats.
“We need to determine who we're going to redshirt this year and who is going to be on field,” Fritz said. “Next week we've got to start preparing for the first game.”
