Bearkats and Jackrabbits Draw 0-0

SAN ANTONIO -- Sam Houston State and South Dakota State played to a scoreless draw after 110 minutes of play at the UTSA Classic. The Bearkats are now 1-1-1 and will play at North Texas Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.

The Jackrabbits applied most of the pressure throughout the game but the Bearkats were up to the challenge. Sam Houston was outshot 27-4 and sophomore goalkeeper Kylie Hambleton had to make 12 saves.

"We had a much better team effort today," said Bearkat head coach Tom Brown. "Kylie Hambleton had a fantastic game and made some spectacular saves. We will be working on our team organization during attacking opportunities and working with our young back line."

Hambleton's 12 saves ties her career high for a single game. She stopped 12 shots against Oral Roberts in an overtime loss last season.

Sam Houston only managed one shot on goal in the match and just four total shots. The Kats also had just two corner kicks to South Dakota State's 14.

Freshman defender Miriah Hadley picked up a yellow card in the 13th minute while Caylee Costello was booked in the 47th minute.

The Bearkats will host Prairie View A&M at Pritchett Field Sunday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m.
