SAN MARCOS -- Senior midfielder Tricia Mallory gave the Bearkats the lead after just 10 minutes but it wasn't enough as Texas State rallied to beat Sam Houston 2-1.
On the first corner kick of the game, Madison Bible served a ball in that Mallory got her head on and put into the back of the net to give the Bearkats (2-3-1) an early lead. The goal raises her career total to 23, just four behind SHSU's all-time leader Raquel Bueno.
Texas State (3-3-1) equalized in the 33rd minute after substitute Clarissa Leon buried a goal from near the top of the box. She had been on the field for just over two minutes before scoring.
The game remained tied at halftime and the Bearkats were being outshot 10-5. Bearkat goalkeeper Kylie Hambleton was forced to make four saves.
Just 18 seconds into the second half the Bobcats scored the game winning goal.
Texas State dominated the second half, outshooting the Bearkats 12-3 and forcing Hambleton to make seven saves.
Next up for the Kats is another road game at SMU Monday at 7 p.m.
