Bearkats Fall to SMU

DALLAS -- A seventh minute goal was all SMU would need as they beat Sam Houston 4-0 in the Bearkats final nonconference game. The Kats (2-4-1) will open Southland play Friday at Abilene Christian at 4 p.m.

Taylor Barg opened the scoring for the Mustangs in the eighth minute and her teammate Kelsey Gorney doubled the advantage another eight minutes later.

The Bearkats were outshot 26-7 in the game and SHSU goalkeeper Kylie Hambleton was forced to make 11 saves while her SMU counterpart had to just make three stops.

SMU added a third goal in the 55th minute on an unassisted effort from Shelby Redman.  The final goal came from Bari Kesner after 78 minutes.

Sam Houston will head to Abilene in hopes of picking up the team's first road win of the season and starting conference play 1-0.
