Sam Houston State soccer got back to winning with a solid 3-0 performance against Prairie View A&M at Pritchett Field. The Bearkats (2-2-1) will now play their next six games on the road.
After three straight road shutouts, the Kats were back at the friendly confines of Pritchett Field where they are now 6-0 since the artificial turf was installed last season. SHSU has outscored opponents 17-1 in the six games.
“We weren't happy with the way we performed at North Texas and we wanted to get the win and go into tomorrow's training fresh,” said head coach Tom Brown. “We've got a lot of games coming up quickly. We saw some things we need to improve on tonight and that will help us get prepared for the upcoming games.”
Sophomore midfielder Mariah Titus got the scoring started after 23 minutes. After a Prairie View turnover, Titus dribbled through the Panther defense to the top of the box before perfectly curling a shot into the bottom corner.
The Bearkats second goal was a freshman connection just two minutes from halftime. Forward Shannon Shields launched a long throw into the box and Hamilton headed it into the net from just a few yards out.
Shields put the game away in the 84th minute with a goal of her own. Junior Madison Bible played an inch-perfect long ball from inside her own half to send Shields one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Shields buried the goal into the bottom corner to make it 3-0.
“I thought we did a very good job of combining tonight,” said Shannon Shields. “We played as a really strong team and did a lot of good things.
The Bearkat defense was solid for the entire game allowing only three Panther shots in the game, all in the first half.
The next six games for SHSU are on the road starting with Texas State Friday, September 13 at 7 p.m. SMU will then host the Kats Monday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m.
