
Kats knock off Lamar 2-0

BEAUMONT -- A goal in each half led the Bearkats to a 2-0 victory over Lamar on the road Friday night. Jordan Jarzombeck opened the scoring and Allie Johnson added an insurance goal. Kylie Hambleton made four saves to lead Sam Houston to its first shutout of the season.
Sam Houston improved to 4-2 in Southland play and 5-8 overall.
Jarzombeck received a pass from Shelby McDaniel and opened the scoring in the 35th minute. The goal was her first of the season and the second of her career. Hambleton stopped three shots in the first half to keep the Bearkat lead intact.
Johnson netted a goal for the fifth consecutive match. The goal was her team-leading seventh of the season. She finished off a scramble in front of the net. Katie Ferrara was credited with the assist.
Next Friday the Kats face the long trip to Conway, Ark to face Central Arkansas at 7 p.m. The following Friday SHSU will face A&M-Corpus Christi on the road before travelling to Southeastern Louisiana Sunday.
Sam Houston closes the regular season at home against Houston Baptist (Oct. 31) and Nicholls State (Nov. 2).
