SHSU women go 5-0 on first day of season

Highlighted by a victory over No. 9 ranked Stephen F. Austin, the Sam Houston women's bowling team rolled to a perfect day with five victories in quad Baker match play Friday in the Bearkats' opening tournament of the 2014-15 season.
The No. 3 ranked Kats at playing at the All-State Sugar Bowl Invitational hosted by Tulane University in Kenner, La.
Sam Houston was the only squad out of the 13 teams entered in the tournament to go unbeaten in Friday's action.
No. 4 rated Vanderbilt leads the tournament in total pins with a pin fall of 5,011. The Bearkats total pin total is 4,950. Stephen F. Austin is third at 4,817 followed by Alabama-Birmingham (4,880) and host Tulane (4,866).
Sam Houston defeated Alabama State 1,053-958, Southern 1,016-774, Texas Southern 934-870, SFA 975-924 and Jackson State 972-852.
The Kats will face Alabama A&M, Florida A&M, Tulane and Louisiana Tech in traditional team action Saturday. Total pin fall will determine the seedings for Sunday's best-of-seven Baker bracket action.
The Bearkats are defending NCAA Division I national champions.
Sam Houston State won the Tulane Invitational championship to start the 2012-13 season and was the runner-up to SFA in last year's event.
