Kats pick up another tough road win

CONWAY, Ark. -- The Bearkat women's soccer team continued a tough road swing with a 1-0 win over Central Arkansas Friday night. Senior midfielder Madison Bible picked a great time to score her first career goal, as she netted the winner in the 65th minute.

“It was an important win and three points for us,” Bearkat head coach Tom Brown said. “I felt we could have scored some goals early but got a great goal from Bible to win. This win will make the long trip home easier.”

The shutout was the second of the season for junior goalkeeper Kylie Hambleton and the Bearkat back line. Sam Houston's stingy defense didn't allow a single shot by UCA in the first half and only four total in the match.

The Kats (6-8, 5-2 SLC) had eight shots in the first half and forced four saves from the Bears goalkeeper but couldn't open the scoring.

Bible's goal came after she stole the ball from a UCA defender and ripped a shot into the top corner of the net. The senior from San Angelo had played more than 2,000 minutes for SHSU coming into the season and had three assists but was yet to score.

Central Arkansas had just one shot on target in the match, which was saved off the line by a Bearkat defender. The last-ditch save kept the slim Bearkat lead intact. The Bears would have just one more shot in the final 20 minutes of the match.

The Bearkats face a grueling pair of road matches next weekend, playing at A&M-Corpus Christi Friday night and at Southeastern Louisiana Sunday.
