Johnson named soccer player of the week

Sam Houston State sophomore forward Allie Johnson has been named the Southland Conference offensive player of the week for the second time this season. Johnson scored the game-winner against Southeastern Louisiana and assisted on a goal against A&M-Corpus Christi.
The Allen High School product faced a late fitness test before Sunday's match at Southeastern Louisiana but she ultimately was ruled fit to play and came through with the game-winning goal in the 46th minute.
The goal was her eighth of the season, moving her into the top-10 in goals in a season for Sam Houston.
She has been a huge part of the Bearkats success in league play this season. The goal against the Lions gave the Kats a seventh win in league play for the first time ever.
She also played a big part in Friday's win at A&M-Corpus Christi as she picked up an assist on Madison Bible's opening goal.
Sam Houston has won four straight conference games, which is a school record. The Bearkats played a rugged non-conference schedule but have played great in league play and are in position to have their highest finish ever.
The Kats have two regular season games left, as they host Houston Baptist Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Pritchett Field and will close the regular season with senior day against Nicholls at home Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
