Alonzo named All-Tournament

BEAUMONT – Sam Houston State forward Ashley Alonzo was named to the Southland All-Tournament team after she scored the Bearkats' lone goal against the eventual champions Houston Baptist.
Alonzo got on the end of a long ball from the back by Caitlyn Schwartz and slotted it past HBU goalkeeper Patty Walrath in the 18th minute.
The junior from Little Elm was also named to the All-Southland first-team after she scored six goals in the regular season.
Sam Houston finished the season with an overall 9-8-2 record.
HBU defeated the top-seeded Stephen F. Austin 2-0 in Sunday's championship game. It marked the second consecutive season that the No. 3 seed has defeated SFA to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
