UNLV plays host to SHSU Sunday evening

After opening the season with a 100-52 victory over NCAA Division III Austin College Friday, the Sam Houston men's basketball team faces a big test Sunday afternoon as they take on UNLV Sunday.
The pair battle at 7 p.m. (Central Time) at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Both teams come into the contest 1-0. UNLV won Friday in a thrilling come-from-behind 60-59 victory over Morehead State.
Sam Houston features nine returning lettermen including four starters from a 24-11 team that reached the finals of the Southland Conference post-season tournament and earned a berth in the CollegeInsider.com event.
A strong bench that accounted for 59 of SHSU's 100 points in the victory over the Kangaroos Friday could be a big factor for the Bearkats. Sophomore guard Dakari Henderson led SHSU with 16 points in the win.
The Runnin' Rebels, who had to replace all five starters from a year ago, were led on Friday night by freshman guard Rashad Vaughn's 26 points. Sophomore forward Christian Wood posted career-highs with 12 points and a 12 rebounds.
The Runnin' Rebels trailed by as many as 11 in the second half and Vaughn, who also had seven rebounds, sunk a tie-breaking 3-pointer from the corner with 1:06 remaining, which turned out to be the game winner.
