SHSU Women Win Five of Six at Kat Klash

Sam Houston State opened the TRACK Kat Klash women's bowling tournament Friday with five victories in quad baker match play.
The Bearkats defeated Prairie View 979-897, North Carolina A&T 940-910, Delaware State 963-921, Adelphi 1,082-926 and Delaware State 1,012-891.
Monmouth handed the No. 3 ranked SHSU women their only loss by a narrow 1,037-1,032 margin.
Three teams had perfect 6-0 records Friday as Arkansas State, Stephen F. Austin and Nebraska all went undefeated. Arkansas State leads the tournament in total pins with 6,025 but the Bearkats are close behind at 6,015.
"Today was a solid day for us and a great start to the weekend,” SHSU head coach Brad Hagen said. “We took advantage of our opportunities. Saturday is all about picking up momentum for Sundays match play and so far we are on the right track. This team defines resiliency but we need to stay in the moment, fill ten pins, and continue making quality shots."
Ten nationally ranked women's bowling teams highlight the 18-team field competing Friday, Nov. 21 through Sunday, Nov. 23 at Emerald Lanes in Houston. The facility is located at 9307 Boone Road.
The teams will play six five-person traditional team contests on Saturday and baker best-of-seven match bracket play on Sunday.
Joining the No. 3 ranked Sam Houston Bearkats in the field are No. 1 Nebraska, No. 2 Arkansas State, No. 6 Central Missouri, No. 9 Stephen F. Austin, No. 13 North Carolina A&T, No. 16 McKendree, No. 18 Alabama State, No. 19 Delaware State and No. 20 Monmouth.
With the Cornhuskers and the Bearkats both in the field, fans could see a rematch between the two squads that battled on ESPN national TV last April in the NCAA Division I championship final. Sam Houston defeated Nebraska four games to two that night to bring home the university's first NCAA Division I national championship trophy.
Arkansas State has an exciting history with the four-year-old Bearkat program as well. Sam Houston and Arkansas State met in the championship finals of the first SHSU TRACK Kat Klash in December, 2011.
