Ameer Jackson signs with Sam Houston

Ameer Jackson, 6-4 guard from Dodge City Community College in Kansas, has signed a letter-of-intent to attend Sam Houston State and play men's basketball for Bearkat head coach Jason Hooten.

Jackson is averaging 15.4 points per game as a starter for Dodge City. He is shooting .454 percent from the floor including a .354 mark from three point range.

“We're really excited about Ameer. He is a versatile player who can play all three guard positions,” Hooten said. “He is an all-around player who can score, rebound and play defense.”

As a freshman at Dodge City last season, Jackson averaged 13.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. He averaged 22.1 minutes per contest.

“Ameer is a physically gifted athlete who can play multiple guard positions,” Dodge City head coach Kyle Campbell said. “He can score in many different ways and has the potential to be a great defender and leader for Coach Hooten. He has a competitive spirit that is fun to be around. His energy is infectious. I have really enjoyed coaching Ameer and think he will be a great addition for Sam Houston State.”

Jackson signed with Dodge City after averaging 14.2 points, 5.3 assists and 4.1 rebounds for Evelyn Mack Academy in Kannapolis, North Carolina.

“What we like most about Ameer is he is the type of person who will fit in so well with all the young guys we will have on the squad next year,” Hooten said. “He will take on whatever role we ask to help us succeed.”

As a junior at Fort Union High School, Jackson averaged 20.1 points, 6.2 assists and 6.3 rebounds.
