The Bearkats head to Kansas City, Mo., to take on a talent-laden field at the Central Missouri Mules Invitational.
The event is being held at the AMF Pro Bowl Lanes. Nine nationally-ranked teams including seven squads currently in the top 10 will compete.
Sam Houston brings a 71-36 dual match won-loss record into the tournament, the most victories by any squad in the top 20. Thirty-four of those wins are over nationally ranked foes.
Joining the No. 7 Bearkats in the field in Kansas City are No. 1 Arkansas State, No. 2 Nebraska, No. 5 Central Missouri, No. 6 Stephen F. Austin, No. 8 Vanderbilt, No. 9 Wisconsin-Whitewater, No. 14 Valparaiso and No. 15 McKendree.
Also competing are unranked Elmhurst, Louisiana Tech and New Jersey City.
The Kats stand 30-29 against the teams in the tournament.
“This is another opportunity for us to build our resume for the NCAAs,” head coach Brad Hagen said. “We've had some highs and lows this year, but are on track to finish strong if we maintain our focus.”
Sam Houston has participated in eight tournaments so far this season, winning the Hornet Invitational in Montgomery, finishing as runners-up at Tulane and Arkansas State, fifth at Nebraska, sixth at the Track Kat Klash and seventh at both Valparaiso and New Jersey.
Action begins Friday with quad baker competition followed Saturday by tradition team matches and Sunday with best-of-seven baker bracket play.
