SHSU men look to continue winning streak

Ready to get back to action after a week's rest, the Sam Houston men's basketball team plays host to Lamar Saturday at 3:45 p.m. at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
The Bearkats (16-6) have won seven of their last eight games and stand alone in second place in the Southland race with an 8-2 mark. Stephen F. Austin, unbeaten in 10 games, leads the league. The Lumberjacks will be visiting Huntsville in a much-anticipated showdown Saturday, Feb. 15.
Sam Houston remains perfect in seven games at home this year.
The Bearkats continue to sport an strong offensive attack, averaging 78.9 points per game. Sam Houston's 78.9 scoring average ranks third in the league behind Northwestern State and UIW
Jabari Peters leads a group of three players in double figures with his 13.3 points per game. Kaheem Ransom (11.8) and Paul Baxter (10.0) are also scoring in double digits.
Michael Holyfield leads the team and ranks ninth in the Southland with 6.4 rebounds per game.
Lamar, a squad that stands 3-19 for the year, has picked up two Southland Conference wins in the past week-and-a-half.
First the Cardinals earned a 65-57 road win at Abilene Christian. They followed up by claiming a 59-57 victory over Houston Baptist for the first home win of the year.
Nimrod Hilliard, a 6-1 junior guard, scored 14 points against HBU, sinking a seven-footer for the win with 8 seconds to play.
Hilliard is scoring 14.1 points per game and ranks 13th in the Southland. Amos Wilson (11.4), Rhon Mitchell (10.2) and Donovan Ross (10.1) are also scoring in double figures for a team averaging 65.3 points per game.
Saturday is Double Dave's Double Header pizza day. Double Dave's is the host for an after the game party following the women's and men's basketball doubleheader.
The men's game Saturday will be broadcast live in the Huntsville area by KSAM 101.7 FM.
