The Sam Houston women's tennis team opened 2014 Southland Conference play with a 5-2 dual match victory over Oral Roberts Sunday afternoon.

The Bearkats, now 2-0 for the season, battled back after losing the doubles point to win five of the six singles matches.

Two of the wins came in three sets as Olivia Battye defeated Haley Martin 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 1 and Kayla Stevenson won 3-6 6-1 6-3 over Melanie Marlin at No. 3.

Maddie Mortimore downed Marizanne Bouwer 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 at No. 2 and Karen Martinez and Isabella Costa both had quick two-set wins at the fifth and sixth spots.
