Lubbock – Sam Houston split on its second day at the Texas Tech Softball Invitational, defeating Abilene Christian 8-6 in extra innings before falling to the host Red Raiders 4-2.

Cecilia Castillo slammed a two-run homer over the left field fence in the second extra inning of play to power Sam Houston in the 8-6 softball victory over Abilene Christian.

Sam Houston struck first as Dani Allen and Sarah Allison each scored on Wildcat errors.

Abilene Christian struck back for three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Tiffany Castillo knotted the score at 3-3 with an RBI single in the top of the fourth.

Allysa Coggins put SHSU up 5-3 with a two-run single in the top of the eighth inning but Abilene Christian rallied again to tie the game 5-5.

Hillary Adams started a three-run inning in the top of the ninth with an RBI single, setting up Castillo's game-winning run.

Tayler Atkinson spread 11 hits over seven innings. Meme Quinn got the win in relief in the eighth inning. Haley Baros picked up her second save in two days in the ninth inning.

Texas Tech totaled nine hits in the Raiders 4-2 win in the Bearkats' nightcap Saturday.

After Tech scored a run in the bottom of the first and two in the second inning, the Bearkats got on the board as Amy Pelton singled, was sacrificed to second, reached third on an error and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Tayler Gray in the third inning.

Gray added a solo home run in the fifth inning.

Haley Baros was the losing pitcher for the Bearkats with a complete game in the circle.

Sam Houston now stands 7-8. The Bearkats will end play in the tournament Sunday versus Rhode Island.
