The Sam Houston State men's basketball season will continue for at least another game. On Sunday night the Bearkats accepted an invitation to participate in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.
The Bearkats will open play on Tuesday at home against Alabama State. The start time is set for 7 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for Sam Houston students.
The Kats finished the season with a loss to Stephen F. Austin in the finals of the Southland Conference Tournament on Saturday. They stand at 23-10 on the year, the best mark under fourth-year head coach Jason Hooten.
“Playing in the post season will be a great opportunity for this team and we are fortunate to be in the postseason for just the third time in school history,” Hooten said. “They have had a very good season and deserve to continue playing basketball.”
The Kats will welcome an Alabama State team that went 19-12 in the regular season, losing to SWAC Tournament champion Texas Southern in the semifinals after running off four straight wins. The Hornets were 5-9 on the road this season while the Kats were 11-1 at Johnson Coliseum.
“I want to thank the selection committee of the CIT for putting us in the field,” said Hooten, who is 37-19 at home in his four years as a head coach. “Also I want to thank our university president Dana Gibson and athletic director Bobby Williams for making it possible for us to play at home, where we have been very good this season.”
