Seven To Be Honored On Senior Day Saturday

Seven Bearkat seniors – three women and four men – will make their final appearances as members of the Sam Houston basketball program Saturday afternoon when SHSU plays host to New Orleans in a Southland Conference doubleheader.
The women tip off at 1:30 p.m. and the men follow at 3:45 p.m. The doubleheader closes the regular season for both squads.
Nyha Carter, Clarke Davis and Jasmine Johnson are the women's seniors. Will Bond, Terrance Motley, Nathaniel Mason and James Thomas are playing in their final home games at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
The three women's seniors have helped lead Sam Houston to the program's most successful four-year run as an NCAA Division I team.
Last year they were part of the first Southland Conference women's basketball title team at SHSU. The trio also were members of the Bearkat women's WNIT & WBI post-season tournament participants.
Carter has totaled 336 points and 412 rebounds in 113 games as a Bearkat. She ranks 11th in the Southland Conference this year in rebounding.
Davis has posted 274 points and 219 rebounds as a member of the Sam Houston women's basketball program.
Johnson comes into her final home game ranked as Sam Houston's 16th all-time leading scorer and fifth career assist leader. Playing in her 118th contest, she has totaled 861 points and 368 assists.
The four men's seniors have led Sam Houston to its seventh 20-victory season at the NCAA Division I level. Last year the team made the program's ninth Southland tournament semifinals appearance.
Bond has scored 328 points in 63 games in his two years at Sam Houston. The Phoenix, Arizona, product came to Huntsville from Trinity Valley Community College. This year he is averaging 14.2 minutes per game off the bench.
Mason, who came to SHSU as a transfer from Des Moines Area Junior College, has scored 342 points and grabbed 148 rebounds in 63 contests as a Bearkat. This year he is averaging 15 minutes a game as one of the top players off the bench.
Motley, a transfer from Western Nebraska College, has totaled 453 points and 279 rebounds in 60 games as a Bearkat. This season he is the team's fourth-leading scorer and stands 11th in the Southland Conference in field goal percentage.
Thomas, last year's leading scorer and team MVP, came to SHSU from Navarro Junior College. He has scored 588 points and pulled down 301 rebounds the past two seasons. Thomas has scored in double figures 27 times.
The Bearkat women's game will be broadcast live on KHVL-FM 104.9 while the men's game will be carried on KSAM-FM 101.7.
