The Sam Houston State heptathletes and decathletes got a jump start to the weekend at the David Noble Multi-Event in San Angelo with all seven Bearkats capturing lifetime personal bests over the two day event.
At the end of Thursday, Nicole Jenrette, Paula Smith, Allyson Pettit and Porter Frances all posted personal best totals including three lifetime PR's in the hurdles.
The men would also get the weekend started on the right foot as Jay Roberson, Jonathan Andrews and Joey Babbs set personal record point totals.
Roberson captured personal record's in the 400 meters (51.25), 1500 meters (5:16.66), high jump (5 ft. 11.25 inches), pole vault (16 ft. 7.5 inches), javelin throw (138 ft. 5 inches) and decathlon (6512 points) to lead the way for the men in a fourth place finisher.
Jenrette finished second in the heptathlon posting PR's in the high jump (5 ft. 7.25 inches), shot put (37 ft. 5.25 inches), 100 meter hurdles (14.80, 3.2 wind), 200 meters (26.27, 5.5 wind), javelin throw (103 ft.) and the heptathlon (4868 points).
On Saturday, the Kats full squad was in action in Abilene totaling 17 top five finishes including a trio of top spots, two school records and numerous personal bests.
Adrienne Quillin continued her record-setting season with a Sam Houston best of 193 ft. 1 inch and a first place finish in the hammer throw marking the junior's fourth consecutive meet to set school record.
Elsewhere, Senior Sabrina Starr earned a first place finish and a school record of 13.32 in the 100 meter hurdles while sophomore Ruth Amaku took the top spot in the 400 meter hurdles and a time of 1:00.68.
Sam Houston would also take five runner-up spots including freshman Kristine Hanks' PR of 47 ft. 10 inches in the shot put; sophomore Ashley Jenkins' PR of 179 ft. 9 inches in the hammer throw; sophomore Elizabeth Lyssy's 135 ft. 9 inch javelin throw; senior Daniel Jones's time of 16:09.22 in the 5000 meters and senior Brek Christensen's distance of 198 ft. 2 inches in the hammer.
Third place finishers included junior Kara Whitson posted a distance of 12 ft. 4.50 inches in the pole vault as well as junior Winnie Ileso who posted a PR of 19 ft. 6 inches in the long jump and freshman Garrett Larson who also captured a PR of 16 ft. 7.50 inches in the pole vault.
The men's 4x100 relay tandem of Torrance Williams, Kristen Mitchell, Rodney Jones and Jarrick Wright secured a fourth place finish at 40.27 – the fastest time in the event for SHSU this season.
Four Bearkats' placed fifth highlighted by Ileso's PR of 11.82 in the 100 meter dash and junior Rodney Jones's PR of 46.65 in the 400 meters. Junior Ammaad McCarthy (173 ft. 1 in the hammer) and sophomore Jordan Grady (57.55 in the 400 meter dash) were also fifth place finishers.
Two Kats set PR's in sixth place finishes including senior Jarrick Wright's time of 10.40 in the 100 meters and freshman Alexandria Kimble's time of 1:02.97 in the 400 meter hurdles.
Sophomore Ashley Thompson's height of 11 ft. 10.5 inches in the pole vault was good enough for sixth place as was junior Kaylynne Wright's distance of 37 ft. 3.25 inches in the triple jump.
Others notables included seventh place finishes from Ashley Jenkins (shot put; 40 ft. 9 inches) and Kalvin Singletary (shot put; 46 ft. 11.75 inches) not to mention PR's from Kristen Mitchell (100 meter dash; 10.42), Garrett Rose (pole vault; 15 ft. 7.75 inches) and Chris Jefferson (triple jump; 48 ft. 0.5 inches).
PR's were also secured in the long jump by freshman Khalaya Williams' (18 ft. 5 inches; 13th place); in the 100 meter dash by sophomore Justin Jenkins (10.58; 12th place), senior Torrance Williams (10.59; 14th place) and sophomore Trevor Kubera (10.98; 30th place) as well as in the 200 meter dash by Kristen Mitchell (21.09; ninth place) and Kubera (22.28; 31st place); in the 400 meter dash by Dedrick Brooks (48.50; 13th place); in the long jump by Justin Jenkins (21 ft. 11 inches; 14th place) and in the discus throw by James Endsley (158 ft. 7 inches; 11th place) and Kalvin Singletary (148 ft. 4 inches; 13th place).
Other highlights included sophomore Elizabeth Ene's eighth place finish in the 200 meter dash (24.61) and 11th place final in the 100 meter dash (12.21); Sunday Foster's tenth place time of 24.81 in the 200 meters; Winnie Ileso's best mark of her outdoor season at 14.15 in a ninth place finish in the 100 meter hurdles and Kaylynne Wright's 2014 best of 18 ft. 9.75 inches in eighth in the long jump.
Sam Houston's next action will come at the Texas-San Antonio Invitational on Saturday while senior Alyssa Dooley will represent the Bearkats out west at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
