Sam Houston State won three of the Southland Conference's four weekly track & field honors, the league announced Tuesday.
De'Quad Binder was named Men's Track Athlete of the Week while Danielle Demas took Women's Track Athlete of the Week and Ashley Jenkins secured Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
The accolades come after the Kats highly successful weekend at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin and bring the weekly honors total to seven by six different athletes on the outdoor season.
At the Invitational, Binder captured a school record time of 1:49.80 in the 800 meter dash, a mark that was more than two seconds off his previous personal best.
In the hammer throw, Jenkins' toss of 199 ft. 9 inches was also a SHSU record as well as an astounding 20 feet further than her previous personal best.
Demas picks up her weekly honor after securing a season-best of 13.36 in the 100 meter hurdles, the fastest time amongst Southland competitors this weekend.
Jenkins heads into the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships this weekend ranked first in the league in the hammer while Binder and Demas both place second in their selected categories.
The championships will take place May 9-11 from Conway, Ark. as the women look to repeat as indoor champions and the men attempt to build on from their runner-up finish.
