Kats and Coogs draw 2-2 in final tune-up

Sam Houston State and Houston tied 2-2 in the final exhibition game before the 2014 season gets underway this weekend. The Bearkats open the season Friday, Aug. 22 against Louisiana-Lafayette at Pritchett Field at 6:30 p.m.
Sophomore forward Jordan Jarzombeck scored just three minutes into the game after a great cross from junior Shelby McDaniel.
“I thought we played a better game than we did against Baylor,” Bearkat head coach Tom Brown said. “We were able to improve our attack and get a couple of goals. We created some very good scoring chances on the night.”
Houston leveled the score just a few minute before halftime but sophomore Allie Johnson gave the Kats the lead in the 65th minute after she picked a defenders pocket and slotted the ball past the keeper.
Senior Magen Ross started in goal and made one save while junior Kylie Hambleton played the second half, making four saves and also allowing a goal.
“It was another good preparation game for us as we get ready for Louisiana-Lafayette. We'll watch the video today and find some of the things that we can do better and work on them in training,” said Brown.
