Deveney Wells-Gibson Preseason All-Southland

Sam Houston State senior Deveney Wells-Gibson headlines the 2014 preseason All-Southland Conference volleyball team announced Wednesday.
Wells-Gibson is a first team selection and is one of 18 student-athletes recognized on the preseason list which is voted upon annually by the league's head coaches.
An outside hitter from San Antonio, Wells-Gibson helped Sam Houston to a 17-11 overall and 14-4 conference record last year while earning first-team all-conference honors for the second straight season.
Wells-Gibson led the conference in kills (457) and ranked sixth in the nation in kills per set (4.71). As a junior in 2012, she was the Southland Conference “Player of the Year” after leading Sam Houston to the league championship.
Nine student-athletes who were selected all-conference last season appear on the 2014 Southland Conference preseason all-conference volleyball teams.
Sam Houston begins the 2014 volleyball season August 29-30 when the Bearkats play host to Louisiana-Monroe, Mississippi State, Bakersfield and Texas-Pan American in the annual SHSU Volleyball Invitational.
The Kats play Louisiana-Monroe and Mississippi State at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively, on Friday then finish the tournament with Bakersfield and UTPA at 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturday.
