
Wells-Gibson All-Tournament At Pioneer Classic

For the second week in a row, Sam Houston's Deveney Wells-Gibson has earned all-tournament honors after leading the Bearkats in each of their volleyball matches.
This week, the senior outside hitter from San Antonio helped Sam Houston up its 2014 record to 5-2 with the team's play at the Pioneer Classic hosted by the University of Denver.
Wells-Gibson has led the SHSU squad in kills in each of its seven matches during the first two weeks of the 2014 season.
This weekend she posted 10 kills against Denver, six against Kansas and 17 in the victory over Bradley.
For the year, Wells-Gibson is averaging 4.48 kills per set with a total of 112. She also has totaled 66 digs and 124 successful service receptions.
Chelsea Albers of Kansas was the tournament “Most Valuable Player” after leading the Jayhawks to a perfect 3-0 record. KU dropped only one set in three matches on the way to the tournament title.
Host Denver was the tournament runner-up. Sam Houston placed third while Bradley was fourth.
Next up for the Bearkats is the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup hosted by the University of Houston. Sam Houston will take on Oral Roberts at 1 p.m. and Louisiana-Lafayette at 4 p.m. Friday and the UH Cougars at 11 a.m. Saturday.
The Bearkats' next home match is Thursday, Oct. 9, when Sam Houston plays host to Incarnate Word at 6:30 p.m. in Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
