Sam Houston No. 15 In Both FCS Polls

Sam Houston State stands No. 15 in both The Sports Network and FCS Coaches' Poll this week.
The Bearkats own a 1-2 record with a victory over Alabama State and losses to FCS No. 2 Eastern Washington and FBS No. 10 LSU.
Alabama State is in the “also receiving votes” category in both polls after a victory over FCS No. 14 Tennessee State last week.
The Kats are one of three Southland Conference teams in the FCS rankings. McNeese State moved up to No. 6 in both polls after a 31-24 loss at Nebraska. Defending Southland Conference champion Southeastern Louisiana remains No. 3 in both polls with a 2-0 season mark.
All three teams represented the Southland Conference in the FCS playoffs last year.
The Kats' No. 15 ranking represents the 41st consecutive poll for the Bearkats to be in the FCS Top 25. In 2011, after a three-year drought, SHSU cracked the Top 25 again on Sept. 9 following a victory over Central Arkansas. The Bearkats have held a spot in the poll ever since. The Bearkats have won 33 games and lost only 12 times in that time span.
Sam Houston rose as high as No. 1 at the end of an 11-0 regular season in 2011.
This week, Sam Houston plays host to three-time defending Rocky Mountain Conference champion Colorado State-Pueblo at 6:30 p.m. at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium.
The Thunderwolves currently stand No. 4 in the NCAA Division II national rankings after three consecutive Division I national playoff appearances.
Saturday is 2014 Bearkat Family Weekend at Bowers Stadium.
