Bearkats No. 23 In Mid-major Poll

With a 12-4 overall record and leading the Southland Conference after winning their first four league games, Sam Houston State has jumped into CollegeInsider.com's Mid-Major men's basketball rankings.
The Bearkats are No. 23 in the rankings announced this week. Gonzaga, a 16-1 squad, is No. 1 in the poll. Defending Southland Conference champion Stephen F. Austin stands No. 4.
The Bearkats play host to the McNeese State Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum. Sam Houston stands 8-0 on their home floor this season.
The Bearkats bring a seven-game winning streak into Saturday's contest. The streak began with a 76-54 victory over Eastern Washington on December 16.
Sam Houston State leads the Southland Conference in scoring defense (61.1 points per game), scoring margin (+16.0 points) and field goal percentage defense (.372) this season.
The Bearkats also top the league in rebounding offense (44.1) and rebounding margin (+9.6) for the year.
