SHSU vs Lamar to be televised by ROOT SPORTS

This week the Sam Houston State men's basketball team will play back-to-back televised games. In addition to Saturday's ESPN3 double header against HBU, the Bearkats will now face Lamar on ROOT SPORTS Southwest on Monday, Feb. 2 at 6:30 p.m.
ROOT SPORTS Southwest is the regional television home of the Houston Astros and Houston Rockets. The Network launched on Nov. 17 and is now available on DIRECTV, AT&T U-Verse and Xfinity.
“This is a great opportunity for us to be able to play on the new ROOT SPORTS network in Houston,” said Director of Athletics Bobby Williams. “Houston is an important area for us to reach and this will be another opportunity for our fans in Houston to watch the Bearkats play.”
The game will be produced by Jim Barton and Legacy Sports Network. LSN was launched in 2008 and in addition to producing Houston Baptist football, they have partnered with UIL to produce the Texas High School state championships for all sports except football.
“Anytime we can get a game on television it is huge for our program,” said head coach Jason Hooten. “But to have the opportunity to play on ROOT Sports in Houston, the same network as the Rockets, will be a big boost for us.”
Tom Franklin, who was the play-by-play voice of the Houston Oliers from 1990 to 1994, will handle the play-by-play duties. In addition to his work with the Oilers, Franklin also served in the play-by-play role for the Houston Cougars from 2004-2013. Jim Haller will serve as the analyst. Haller was the head basketball coach at Baylor from 1976-1985. He has worked in television for Fox Sports as well as the Southland Television Network.
The Bearkats finished last season in third place in the Southland Conference and advanced to the championship of the postseason tournament, falling to SFA. They advanced to the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. This year the Kats are off to a 7-1 start in Southland play, currently sitting in second place.
