Two Bearkats Named Preseason All-Southland

Tiffany Castillo and Sarah Allison from Sam Houston State have been named to the 2015 All-Southland Conference preseason softball team.
The list of preseason all-league players was announced Wednesday by the Southland office. The team is selected by vote of the league's head coaches.
Castillo is a two-time All-Southland performer who has started 101 games as a freshman and sophomore. She earned second team all-league honors as the Bearkats' catcher last season.
The Port Lavaca Calhoun product begins the season ranked No. 5 in all-time SHSU softball home runs with 19 in her career. She has compiled a .339 career batting average.
Allison is a three-year letter-winner for the Kats who has earned all-conference honors at two positions during her career. She was a third-team selection at first base as a junior last year and was all-league as a shortstop her sophomore season in 2012.
The A&M Consolidated product from College Station has started in 145 games. She ranks third in all-time Bearkat home runs with a career total of 22.
A total of 19 all-conference selections from a year ago return to appear on the preseason teams.
Southland teams open the season Friday, Feb. 6 with conference play beginning Friday, March 6. The 2015 Southland Conference Softball Tournament will be hosted by Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La., May 7-9 at the Lady Demon Diamond.
Sam Houston State will open the season appearing in tournaments in San Marcos, Arlington and Mobile, Alabama in February. The team's home opener at the Bearkat Softball Complex will be Tuesday March 3 when the SHSU women play host to Mary Hardin-Baylor in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
