Demons pull away for 66-57 win over Kats

Northwestern State pulled away late for a 66-57 win over Sam Houston State in the Bearkats second Southland game of the season. The Kats held a 40-37 lead halfway through the second period before the Demons took control.

Shernise Robertson led all scorers in the game with 16 points. The junior transfer also assisted on eight baskets.

Shadijah Moore was a strong presence in the paint, scoring 12 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Taylor Dorsey added 10 points, pulled down seven rebounds and dished out six assists.

The Bearkats trailed early but a pair of three-pointers by Morghen Day fueled a rally to tie the game 10-10 with 15 minutes left in the first half. SHSU would lead by as many as 10 points in the opening half. The Demons fought back and cut the Kat lead to just three at the break, 30-27.

The second half was back-and-forth, with the game being tied three times in the first 10 minutes. A three-pointer by Chelsea Rogers gave Northwestern State the lead for good with 10:23 left in the game.

Northwestern State led by as many as 10 points, while the Kats were never able to get closer than five points in the final eight minutes.

Keisha Lee led the Demons with 15 points. Chelsea Rogers and Janelle Perez each scored 13 points in the game. Rogers also added a team-high nine rebounds. Presley Owens added 11 points and six boards for NSU.

The Kats hit the road for the next three games, travelling first to Southeastern Louisiana for a contest Thursday at 7:00 p.m.  SHSU will then play New Orleans Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The road swing closes the following Thursday at Nicholls at 6:00 p.m.
