Box Score Sam Houston State volleyball struggled to convert offensively, falling 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-21) to Central Arkansas on Saturday afternoon from Johnson Coliseum in Southland Conference play.
The Bearkats (10-12 overall, 4-4 SLC) hit -.060, their lowest since taking falling to Minnesota on Sept. 19. The Kats were led by Jordyn Vaughn's six kills.
Shelby Genung, Brooke White and Madison Wallace added four a piece while Michelle Griffith accounted for 15 of the team's 25 assists. Claire Kilpatrick and Breanna Homer, who split time at libero, finished with 11 digs and 10 digs respectively.
After a back-and-forth Set 1 that saw 10 tie scores and five lead changes, UCA (13-10 overall, 8-2 SLC) surged from the beginning of Set 2, maintaining the lead throughout the frame. The Kats cut the lead to within one late in Set 3 before coming up four points short.
The Bears were aggressive up front, notching 25 blocks including six block assists from Nicole Peters and two solo blocks and five block assists by Megan Nash. Heather Schnars tallied a match-leading 14 kills and 15 digs while Samantha Anderson and Nash each added eight kills.
The Bears hit .256 as a unit including .263 in the dominant second set. Amy South added 17 assists and both service aces for the Bears.
Sam Houston looks to end its three-match losing streak on Thursday when Stephen F. Austin comes to town. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. from Johnson Coliseum.
