
Bowlers take 5th in 29-team field at New Jersey

The Sam Houston women defeated Delaware State in five games to earn a fifth place finish in the bowling team's second tournament of the season Sunday afternoon.
The number six ranked Bearkats ended the tournament with eight victories in their 11 dual matches.
Delaware State defeated Sam Houston in four games in the team's first best-of-seven baker bracket match Sunday by a score of 203 – 183, 216 – 181, 214 – 202, 205 – 169. The Kats bounced back to knock off No. 11 ranked Maryland-Eastern Shore 201 – 169, 232 – 136, 148 – 169, 202 – 192, 232 -211.
Vanderbilt defeated Arkansas State in the championship finals to host the tournament trophy. Fairleigh-Dickinson defeated Delaware State in the third place contest.
Saturday in the second day of tradition team play, Sam Houston lost to Frankling Pierce 1,010 to 960 in their opening match, then bounced back with wins over 1,018 to 920 over Bethune Cookman, 977 to 941 versus Felician College, 975 to 806 over Adelphi and 932 to 887 against McKendree.
Friday, the Bearkats defeated Caldwell 1,041 pins to 787, No. 18 ranked Kutztown 1,042 pins to 856 and Morgan State 1,144 pins to 841. The Kats' losses came by only 10 pins to No. 12 Saint Francis of Pennsylvania 943 to 933 and by 34 pins to No. 14 LIU-Brooklyn 1,046 to 1,012.
Twenty-nine teams competed in the New Jersey Jamboree. Nineteen of those squads are ranked in the top 25.
Next action for the Bearkats will be at the Nebraska Big Red Tournament on Friday through Sunday November 12 through 14.
