Sam Houston's No. 2 ranked women's bowling team will be the number one seed going into best-of-seven baker bracket play Sunday at the Hawk Classic hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
The Bearkats won five of their six traditional team matches Saturday, all over ranked opponents. The Kats stand 11-1 in dual matches in the event and lead the field with a 202.4 pinfall average. Central Missouri, Vanderbilt and Monmouth rank second through third respectively.
Sam Houston players produced 12 individual games with more than a 200 pin fall. Janine Kuwahara accounted for four of those matches.
“Saturday was another successful one for us,” Sam Houston head coach Brad Hagen said. “We'll be going into Sunday as the number one seed. We're proud of the fact we claimed that position by more than 550 pins. It was a great day as we caught a tough pair out of the gate but made the shots we needed and continued to do so all afternoon.”
Sam Houston's wins came over Fairleigh Dickinson 893 to 834, Saint Francis 977 to 931, New Jersey City 970 to 625, LIU-Brooklyn 1,022 to 1,012 and Monmouth 926 to 886. Central Missouri handed the Kats their only loss 1,072 to 1,060.
