Bearkats take on Southeastern Louisiana

Two teams in desperate need of a victory to improve their spot in the race for a spot in the Southland Conference volleyball tournament face off when Sam Houston takes on Southeastern Louisiana Thursday night in Hammond, La.
The Lions currently rank sixth among the league teams eligible for post-season play while Sam Houston stands seventh. Only eight teams advance to the tournament which will be hosted by Central Arkansas Friday through Sunday November 20-22.
Southeastern Louisiana has won only one its last four matches to stand 11-14 for the season and 5-6 in Southland action. Sam Houston brings an 11-8 overall mark and a 5-7 league record into the fray after dropping a pair of road contests last weekend.
The matchup with the Lions is part of a two-game swing for the Kats to southern Louisiana. Sam Houston takes on New Orleans Saturday afternoon in the Crescent City.
Sophomores Brooke White and Jordyn Vaughn provide the offense for the Bearkats. The pair have totaled 339 and 241 points, respectively this year. White averages 3.20 kills per set while Vaughn owns a 3.28 average.
Junior Shelby Genung and freshmen Taylor Cunning and Madison Wallace also are offensive threats for the Bearkats.
Landry Bullock leads Southeastern Louisiana with 270 kills for a 3.07 per set average.
Defensively libero Claire Kilpatrick has totaled 393 digs and Breanna Homer has added 291. Genung is the Kats' top defender up front with 62 blocks.
Following this weekend's contests, the Bearkats will return home for their final two regular season matches. Sam Houston plays host to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday November 12 at 6:30 p.m. and meets Houston Baptist on Saturday November 14 at 2 p.m.
