Sam Houston senior offensive lineman Donald Jackson III is making a clean sweep of the major FCS All-America honor teams.
Today, the Walter Camp 2015 Football Championship Subdivision All-America team was announced and Jackson is one of 25 players named to the squad. The team is selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of the Football Championship Subdivision schools and certified by the accounting and auditing firm, Marcum LLP.
In all, players from 10 different conferences and 23 institutions are represented on the 2015 Walter Camp FCS All-America team.
The Southland Conference's 2015 “Offensive Lineman of the Year,” Jackson already has been named to the Associated Press and STATs FCS All-America squads. The four-year starter who has been an All-Southland Conference performer each of the last three years started every game this season as the Bearkats have rolled to an 11-3 record and the NCAA Division I Football Championship semi-finals.
The Kilgore, Texas, product becomes the sixth Sam Houston player to earn selection as a Walter Camp All-America honoree. The first five were defensive lineman Michael Bankston (1991), wide receiver Johnathon Cooper (2001), linebacker Dedrick Manigo (1996), safety Darnell Taylor (2012) and offensive lineman Murphy Yates (1991).
No. 6 ranked Sam Houston takes on No. 1 Jacksonville State in the FCS semi-finals Saturday at 3 p.m. in Alabama. The winner of the game advances to the national championship game in Frisco on Saturday, January 9. The contest will be televised on ESPNU Saturday.
Walter Camp, “The Father of American Football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation – a New Haven based all-volunteer group – was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting All-America teams for the Football Bowl and Championship subdivisions.
