HUNTSVILLE – Dakarai Henderson scored 25 points to lead Sam Houston to a 109-61 non-conference victory over Sul Ross Sunday afternoon at Bernard G. Johnson.
Aurimas Majauskas and Jamal Williams added 18 and 16 points, respectively. Josh Delaney came off the bench to score 10 points.
Rocky Feliciano led the Lobos with 12 points. Sam Houston upped its season record to 3-5. Sul Ross stands 1-5 for the year.
Sul Ross held leads three times in the first half including an eight-point 24-16 margin with 9:54 left before intermission. The Bearkats fought back to go into the locker room at halftime up by five, 37-32.
Fueled by 26 points off of 18 Lobo turnovers, 12 coming on steals, Sam Houston out-scored Sul Ross 72-29 in the second half. The Bearkats went 28-of-44 from the field for 63.6 percent shooting in the final 20 minutes.
“A win is a win. We came out in the second half with a lot of intensity and forced a lot of turnovers,” Sam Houston head coach Jason Hooten said. “We've had a couple of tough injuries and we're trying to bounce back from that. We were excited about the effort today.”
Sam Houston hit 12 three-point baskets with Henderson going 5-for-10 from beyond the arc. The Bearkats out-rebounded Sul Ross 54 to 29. Henderson pulled down eight boards and Jalin Barnes and Majuaskas each added seven rebounds. Barnes accounted for four of Sam Houston's 12 steals.
The Kats out-pointed the Lobos 52-16 in the paint with 28 second change points and seven baskets coming on fast breaks.
