Bearkats 10-1 at SFA Jacks Invitational

The Bearkat bowlers went undefeated Saturday to run their record at the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack Classic to 10-1.
No. 7 ranked Sam Houston's performance in tradition team play put the Bearkats in fourth place in total pins going into Sunday's best-of-seven bracket play. The SHSU women will face No. 15 LIU-Brooklyn in the first round of bracket play.
No. 1 Nebraska is first in total pins with 12,575 while host No. 5 SFA is in second with a 12,400 pin fall total. The Cornhuskers are 8-3 while SFA is 9-2 in the event.
Saturday the Bearkats defeated No. 15 LIU-Brooklyn 1,075-1,036; No. 20 Alabama-Birmingham 1,033-902; Prairie View A&M 1,037-800; Southern 1,004-861 and No. 4 Central Missouri 903-897.
“It was an awesome day for us and put us in great position for Sunday's bracket play,” SHSU head coach Brad Hagen said.
Friday, the SHSU women posted wins over No. 15 LIU-Brooklyn 1,127-1,078, No. 12 Sacred Heart 1,093-968 and No. 14 Saint Francis Brooklyn 933-866. The Kats also topped unranked opponents Texas Southern 906-904 and Monmouth 1,019-912.
The team's only loss came in their second match of the day as the Kats fell to No. 8 Maryland-Eastern Shore 1,140-1,011.
The Kats now hold a 76-32 won-loss record for the season.
