Nine Women Earn All-Southland Honors

Nine Sam Houston women earned All-Southland Conference honors on the way to leading the Bearkats to a second place team finish at the 2015 Southland Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.
Danielle Demas, Ashley Jenkins, Camry Grigsby, Kodii Church, Ruth Amaku and Jordan Grady all were first team selections. Winnie Ileso, Paula Smith and Kara Whitson also were all-league honorees.
Jenkins took gold in the women's weight throw with a school record mark of 62' 10”. Demas was the event winner in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.30 seconds.
Grigsby, Church, Amaku and Grady teamed to win the women's 4x400 meter relay with a clocking of 3:43.37. The mark stands as a Bearkat women's indoor school record.
Smith was second in the long jump with a leap of 19' 3.5” and Grady earned a silver medal in the 400 meter dash with a mark of 55.50. Smith also placed third in the 60 meter dash (7.62) and fourth in the high jump (5' 4.25”). Whitson was a third place finished in the pole vault, clearing 13' 0.75”.
