MONROE, La. -- The Bearkats dropped the finale of the three-game weekend series, 9-1, to Louisiana-Monroe Sunday at Warhawk Field.
Sam Houston (5-7) will return to Don Sanders Stadium, where the Kats are 3-1 this season, to host McNeese State Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Junior Logan Boyd got the start on the mound for SHSU and tossed just four innings, allowing just two unearned runs on four hits. He struck out five and walked three.
Of the nine runs ULM scored in the game, only three were earned runs. Sam Houston committed four errors in the field.
The Bearkats grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Shortstop Miles Manning singled to right center and was sacrificed to second by third baseman Nate VanDyke. Manning came around to score on an RBI double by right fielder Travis Lee.
The majority of the Warhawk runs were scored off of the Bearkat relievers. Jordan Church allowed one unearned run in one inning pitched. Dylan Ebbs allowed four runs in the sixth inning but two of the runs were unearned due to an error in the frame. Ryan Brinley pitched a perfect seventh inning but allowed two runs on a walk, two hits and an error in the eighth.
ULM starter Trey Setzer allowed the one run on three hits in six innings pitched. He struck out nine batters and picked up his first win of the season.
After hosting McNeese State Tuesday the Kats will head to Baylor for a game Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
