No. 20 Aggies host Kat softball Wednesday

The Bearkat softball team tests themselves against another top 25 opponent Wednesday when the SHSU women travel to College Station to take on No. 20 Texas A&M at 6:30 p.m.
The Aggies took two of three from the No. 10 Kentucky Wildcats this past weekend to up Texas A&M's record to 19-5. Kentucky was a 2014 NCAA College World Series participant last year.
The Aggies won the first two games of the series but had their 12-game win streak snapped by a loss to the Wildcats in the final game.
Leadoff hitter Brittany Clopton is Texas A&M's top hitter this year with a .351 average and 11 RBIs. Abby Donnell also is dangerous at the plate with a .348 batting mean.
In the circle, Rachel Fox sports an 11-3 record. Fox fanned a season-high 11 batters against Illinois State. Katie Marks and Abby Donnell also have strong arms.
Sam Houston brings a 7-14 record into the contest. The Bearkats swept a mid-week doubleheader from Mary Hardin-Baylor then opened Southland Conference action with three losses versus two-time defending league champion McNeese State in Lake Charles.
Third baseman Peyton Webb and second baseman Dani Allen continue to lead Bearkat hitting. Webb sports a .390 batting average with four doubles, four home runs and 16 RBIs. Allen is averaging .329 at the plate with a pair of doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs.
Center fielder Jennie Kieval (.321, 12 RBIs) and shortstop Sarah Allison (.318, 20 RBIs) also own batting averages above .300.
Sam Houston players have combined for 27 doubles, a triple and 23 home runs this year. Three of the top five home run in school history currently are on the field for the Bearkats.
Designated player Hillary Adams is the Kats' all-time leader with 35 home runs including four this season. Adams also is the Bearkats' all-time leader in RBIs with 120.
Allison, who leads the 2015 team with six home runs, stands No. 2 all-time at SHSU with 28 in her career. Catcher Tiffany Castillo has blasted 21 home runs in her career to stand tied for fourth all-time Shelbi Tucker.
Sam Houston State plays its first Southland Conference home series Friday and Saturday at the Bearkat Softball Complex. The Kats will play host to the Nicholls Colonels in a Friday single game at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday also starting at 3 p.m.
