The first 100 Sam Houston State University students to show their active Bearkat One Card at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum will receive free admission to Wednesday night's CollegeInsider.com Tournament game thanks to SHSU head men's basketball coach Jason Hooten.
The SHSU men play host to North Carolina-Wilmington at 6:30 p.m. in the first round of the C.I.T. With a 25-7 record, the Bearkats rank along with 24-8 Cleveland State as the two squads in the 32-team field with the best overall records this season.
“We're excited about hosting NCAA Division I post-season basketball at Johnson Coliseum again this year,” Hooten said. “Our players feed off the support we get from our students in the stands. Come and be loud Wednesday night.”
Students looking to be among the first 100 should report to Gates 27-28. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Sam Houston State 2015 basketball season ticket holders have the opportunity to purchase their same seats for the C.I.T. first round game by calling the ticket office at (936) 294-1729.
Regular tickets for Wednesday's game are $10 each. Student tickets are $5 each.
All tickets will be at will call for pick up at Box Office 1 and the Johnson Coliseum on Wednesday.
UNC-Wilmington finished the regular season 18-13 and third place in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Seahawks lost in the semifinals of the CAA tournament, falling to Northeastern. Addison Spruill, a 6-4 senior guard, leads UNCW with 14.3 points per game.
The Bearkats and Seahawks are included in a group of 32 team competing for the CIT championship. The CIT uses the old NIT model with no set bracket. After the first round of game, the field will be reset based on the opening round results. Three other Southland Conference schools are also participating in the tournament with Northwestern State and Incarnate Word also hosting first round games and Texas A&M Corpus Christi playing on the road.
