Rain wipes out most of Kats first outdoor meet

Heavy rains Saturday ended Sam Houston's first outdoor track event of the season at the Texas Southern Relays last weekend.
The Bearkats were able to post marks in a number of events Friday.
For the men, All-Southland Conference hurdler Matt Viverette posted times of 14.88 in the 110 meter hurdles and 52.43 in the 400 hurdles. Michael Nichols posted the best mark for the SHSU men in the shot put with a throw of 52' 8.25”.
Ammaad McCarthy earned the high mark in the hammer for the team with a throw of 177' 9”. James Endsley had the team's best performance in the discus with a 133' 6” mark. Tyler Adams opened his outdoor season with a leap of 21' 11.5” in the long jump and a 15.20 time in the 110 hurdles.
Garrett Larson cleared 16' 0.75” to lead Sam Houston's men vaulters.
For the women, Kristine Hanks led in the shot put with a throw of 43' 1.5”. Ashley Jenkins threw the hammer 193' 4” for SHSU's top mark in the event. Paula Smith long jumped 18' 9.25” while Kara Whitson cleared 12' 5.5” in the pole vault.
Danielle Demas led the Bearkats with a 13.80 clocking in the 110 hurrdles. Briana McCall posted a time of 2:15.05 in the 800 meterrs.
