HOUSTON -- Rice used a three-run seventh inning to beat Sam Houston, 4-0, Tuesday night at Reckling Park. The Bearkats will have the opportunity to get revenge against the Owls Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Don Sanders Stadium.
Sam Odom was outstanding for six innings and held Rice to just four hits to start the ballgame. Unfortunately for Sam Houston the Owls got to Odom in the seventh inning.
After a pair of one-out singles in the seventh, third baseman Tristan Gray smashed a three-run home run to right field to drive in the winning runs. The Owls added an insurance run in the ninth inning after a walk, hit batter, a bunt single and an error.
The Bearkats mustered just two hits in the game against a combination of Dane Myers, Austin Solecitto and Glenn Otto.
Myers started and tossed 4 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts. Solecitto was on the mound for 1 2/3 innings. Otto pitched three perfect innings with five strikeouts to earn the win.
Right fielder Bryce Johnson and designated hitter Dylan Ebbs were the two Bearkats with hits in the game. Center fielder Colt Atwood reached twice in the game with two walks. Left fielder Hayden Simerly and catcher Colin Yelich each worked one walk.
Reliever Greg Belton pitched one scoreless inning of relief. He didn't allow a hit but did walk one batter.
