Lions defeat SHSU women 6-1 in Hammond

With No. 2 Fabienne Gettwart out with an illness, a short-handed Sam Houston women's tennis team lost to Southeastern Louisiana 6-1 in the Bearkats' opening Southland dual match of the 2015 season.

Mila Milanovic picked up the SHSU women's only point in Hammond Saturday, defeating Anna Bryukhova at number two singles 6-3 5-7 1-0 (10-1).

Caitlyn Mitchell and Bailey VanDyke won the number three doubles but the Lions took the doubles point with victories at number one and two.

Karen Martinez split sets at number four singles but, with the match already clinched by Southeastern Louisiana, lost in the super tie=breaker to decide the result.

Sam Houston completes its Louisiana road trip Sunday with a 10 a.m. match at New Orleans.
