Tennis falls to New Orleans Sunday

New Orleans blanked Sam Houston 7-0 Sunday in the Bearkats' second women's tennis dual match on a Southland Conference road trip to southern Louisiana Sunday.

Three of the six singles matches went three sets including Mila Milanovia at number two, Bailey VanDyke at three and Karen Martinez at four.

VanDyke and Caitlyn Mitchell were up 7-6 at number three doubles but the match was stopped when UNO clinched the doubles point with wins at number one and two.

Sam Houston played both matches this weekend without normal number two singles player Fabienne Gettwart who was ill.

“Even though we lost 7-0, the matches were close,” SHSU head coach Jim Giachino said. “Even without Fabienne, we were in it. We just need to keep working hard and competing.”

Sam Houston will play host to Nicholls and McNeese State in Huntsville next Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
