
Danielle Demas Earns Southland Track Honor

Sam Houston State junior hurdler Danielle Demas has been named as Southland Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week after an outstanding performance at last weekend's Texas Relays in Austin.
Demas set a school record with a time of 13.16 seconds in the women's 100-meter hurdles. The junior from Houston, Texas (Cypress Creek H.S.), finished sixth behind hurdlers from Baylor, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, LSU and Texas. Her 100m time is the fastest in the Southland and the seventh-fastest in the NCAA this year.
The 13.16 clocking topped the previous school mark of 13.19 seconds set by Sabrina Starr at last year's Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Conway, Arkansas. Demas' previous top 100 meter hurdles time was 13.36 at last year's Southland meet.
Demas is coming off an outstanding indoor season which saw her earn All-Southland Conference honors in the 60 meter hurdles. She won the indoor 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.30 seconds.
