Women To Host Texas Southern Tonight
4/15/2015 10:40:00 AM | Softball
The Sam Houston softball team will play host to Texas Southern Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. in a contest that was originally scheduled to be played in Houston.
The move was made because of wet grounds at Texas Southern's softball facility.
The Kats have had lots of success lately against Houston based opponents. The SHSU women shut out the Houston Cougars 2-0 in a non-conference home game last Wednesday. Then, Saturday, the Kats earned a Southland doubleheader sweep at Houston Baptist by scores of 5-2 and 8-1.
Right fielder Sarah Allison has a hot bat for the Kats with a six-game hitting streak while second baseman Dani Allen is right behind with hits in her last five appearances.
Third baseman Peyton Webb continues to be the Bearkats' top hitter with a .324 average this season.
Texas Southern sports a 14-14 record this year which includes two victories over Southland Conference teams (Stephen F. Austin and Incarnate Word). The Tigers' roster features two of the top hitters in the Southwestern Athletic Conference with Thomasina Garza hitting .474 and Chelsea Guenther sporting a .403 batting average.
Following Wednesday's non-conference encounter, the Bearkats will return to Southland action playing host to Abilene Christian Friday and Saturday at the Softball Complex. Friday's doubleheader begins at 3 p.m. The series will close with a 3 p.m. single game on Saturday.
