Kats sign 6-9 Marc Fortin from Quebec

Marc Fortin, a 6-9 230-pound post player from Cegep De Sainte-Foy in Quebec City in Canada has signed a letter-of-intent to attend Sam Houston State and play men's basketball for Bearkat head coach Jason Hooten.
“Marc is really athletic and fast with good hands,” Hooten said. “He has a tremendous work ethic. We love his energy level.”
Fortin averaged 12.6 points and 7.9 rebounds this past season, earning RESQ second-team all-star honors. Fortin will be a freshman for the SHSU men next season.
“Marc played hockey until two years ago when he began playing basketball,” Hooten said. “He has picked up the game quickly and really progressed as a player. He has a high ceiling.”
Fortin is the Bearkats' second signing for the 2015-16 season. Ameer Jackson, 6-4 guard from Dodge City Community College in Kansas, inked a letter-of-intent with the Bearkats during the November early signing period. Jackson averaged 15.4 points per game as a starter for Dodge City.
“We're looking to sign more players soon,” Hooten said. “We lost five outstanding seniors from our team that won 26 games this season. We're excited about our first two signees and look to bring in more quality young men who are outstanding individuals like the five players we graduated.”
Sam Houston has totaled 50 victories the past two seasons, advancing to the finals of the Southland Conference in Katy and earning an NCAA post-season berth in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament for consecutive years.
