Maddie Mortimore earned Sam Houston its only point as the Bearkats fell to Stephen F. Austin 6-1 in a Southland Conference women's tennis dual match Saturday at the McAdams Tennis Center.
Mortimore defeated Julia Lorca 7-6 6-0 in the number six singles. The junior won the first set tie-breaker 7-5.
Mila Milanovic appeared to be battling back after a first set loss to Denise Maxl in the number three singles. The freshman was up 5-3 in the second set when she sprained her ankle and had to retire.
Stephen F. Austin won in straight sets in the other singles matches and took the doubles point with victories at number two and number three.
SFA upped its record to 14-6 for the year and 8-1 in conference play. Sam Houston stands 2-14 for the year and 1-8 in the league.
The Bearkats play host to Northwestern State Sunday at 1 p.m. in the final Sam Houston women's tennis dual match of the season.
